Frequent Questions

Why do we need energy storage?

We currently generate 85 percent of our energy from nuclear power and fossil fuels that release CO2. If these energy sources are eliminated, renewable energies will have to take over the supply of industry, households, transport and commerce. To ensure that enough electricity is available from renewables, the capacities of wind power and photovoltaic systems will have to grow massively by 2050. Since wind and solar energy are not available continuously, in the future we will need short and long-term storage to maintain the energy supply throughout the year.
